Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn Does Not Believe Trident Makes UK Country Safer

In an interview with the BBC’s Andrew Marr, UK Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn said that he did not believe Trident necessarily made the UK safer.

“I want us to achieve a nuclear-free world, to adhere to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty and take part in negoatiations surrounding that. The issue has to be that we want a secure and peaceful world. You achieve that by promoting peace and also promoting security. Security comes from that process.” he said.

However the Labour Party quickly tried to suppress any hints that Trident renewal would not be in the party’s manifesto, or that it would withdraw support for Britain’s nuclear deterrent.
